Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Seizes Over 15,500 Unapproved Baby Diapers in Western North Region.
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Western North Region has seized more than 155 packs of unapproved baby diapers, amounting to approximately 15,523 individual units, from 21 outlets across the region.
The operation, conducted with support from the Ghana Police Service and the Consumer Protection Agency, targeted traders in Dwenase, Bekwai, Asawinso, Bibiani, and Juaboso.
The week-long exercise forms part of efforts to control the influx of unapproved and second-hand baby diapers on the market.
Speaking during the operation, Western North Regional Director of the FDA, Mr. Albert Ankomah, said the move was necessary to protect infants from potential harm caused by substandard products.
“Parents should buy diapers that are registered and well packaged to ensure the safety of their children,” he advised.
Mr. Ankomah further urged wholesalers and retailers to deal only in approved and registered products, stressing that compliance is critical to safeguarding public health.
“We are cautioning all traders to ensure that the products they sell are approved by the FDA. The law will deal with those who fail to comply,” he warned.
He also cautioned the public against purchasing from unauthorized sellers, noting that such items could pose serious health risks.
Meanwhile, traders declined to speak on camera during the exercise.
However, some residents who spoke to the media commended the FDA and the Consumer Protection Agency for removing unapproved diapers from the market, describing the move as timely and necessary.
The FDA has assured the public that such surveillance exercises will continue across the region to ensure consumer safety.
