A teacher and a Student at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School have been arrested following the circulation of a viral video showing them allegedly fighting on campus.
The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
“The Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher and the female student seen in the viral video fighting have been arrested! The regional education directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ,” Fenyi wrote. He also added that both are undergoing medical examination for any potential harm to themselves”.
The incident has sparked public concern after a video widely shared on social media appeared to show the teacher physically confronting the student while onlookers pleaded with him to stop.
The teacher repeatedly punched the female student and, at one point, lifted her and threw her to the ground, leaving her helpless.
In the footage, witnesses can be heard urging the teacher to consider that the student was a girl and to refrain from assaulting her.
However, the teacher, who appeared visibly angry, responded by asking, “Is she aware she is a lady?”
School authorities or the Ghana Education Service have not yet disclosed the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
GES said the regional education directorate has launched an investigation into the incident and is expected to submit a full report to its headquarters.
The arrest comes amid growing calls from members of the public for accountability and the protection of students within educational institutions.
The outcome of the ongoing investigations is expected to determine any further disciplinary or legal action that may be taken.
