GES Announces Payment Plan for Salary Arrears for Affected Teachers from August 2024 to November 2025.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has informed all Regional Directors that the government has approved the payment of salary arrears owed to eligible staff within the Service.
In a letter dated 20 April 2026, the Service indicated that the approval followed a directive from the Ministry of Finance to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department for the settlement of outstanding arrears linked to the utilization of the 2024 financial clearance.
According to the notice from GES, the arrears cover the period from 1 August 2024 to November 2025 and will be paid to qualified personnel in a phased manner.
GES management explained that the accumulated arrears will be settled in five instalments, beginning in May 2026.

The arrangement forms part of measures by the government to clear outstanding obligations to education sector workers while maintaining fiscal stability.
Management of the Ghana Education Service has instructed all Regional Directors of Education to communicate the information promptly to Heads of Schools within their jurisdictions.
The directive aims to ensure that all eligible staff members are properly informed about the payment schedule and the arrears settlement process.
