Headmaster in hot waters for allegedly impregnating final year JHS student
Headmaster in hot waters for allegedly impregnating final year JHS student.
Isaac Dunkwa, the headmaster of Prevailing Academy in the Shama District of the Western Region, has been arrested on allegations of impregnating an underage final-year Junior High School (JHS) student.
This disturbing incident highlights ongoing concerns about student safety and abuse of power in educational institutions.
According to reports, the story broke on social media via the X page of EDHUB, where details of the headmaster’s alleged actions were shared, including narrations from those involved.
The underage student, whose identity remains protected, claims that Dunkwa sexually abused her on multiple occasions.
In a chilling account captured in a video, she described how the headmaster attempted to force an abortion by providing her with drugs from a pharmacy, instructing her to swallow some pills and insert others.
The headmaster’s attempts to cover up the scandal add another layer of deceit to the case.
Reports indicate that Dunkwa approached a male JHS graduate from the school, summoning him to his house on a Saturday to discuss a “serious issue.
He allegedly pressured the young man to take responsibility for the pregnancy, suggesting it could be resolved privately within the family to shield himself from legal repercussions.
The graduate recounted: “I was called by the headteacher to come to his house one Saturday. He told me there was a serious issue. He had impregnated a girl, and I was asked to take responsibility so that it could be settled at home.
I later called the girl’s family, and her father invited me to his house. Later, I heard the teacher had been arrested at the Sekondi Police Station. He was later granted bail.”
This revelation has sparked outrage among parents, and child rights advocates in Ghana.
Prevailing Academy, meant to be a haven for learning, now finds itself at the center of a scandal that questions the integrity of those in leadership positions.
The arrest took place at the Sekondi Police Station, and while Dunkwa was granted bail, investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the abuse.
It serves as a stark reminder of the need for stricter safeguarding measures, regular background checks on school staff, and comprehensive sex education programs that empower students to report abuse without fear.
As the story develops, many are calling for swift justice and systemic reforms to prevent such tragedies in the future.
