Man jailed after piercing teen’s heart with knife.
A man who pierced a teenager’s heart with a knife has been jailed.
The victim, who was attacked as he celebrated his birthday in Nottingham city centre, was left fighting for his life.
Mohammed Ahmed-Altey denied his involvement but was found guilty of wounding with intent and possessing a knife in a public place.
The 23-year-old was jailed for 15 years at Nottingham Crown Court.
The teenage victim was with friends in Bridlesmith Gate when he was approached by Ahmed-Altey and a friend on 17 November last year, Nottinghamshire Police said.
After a verbal confrontation, Ahmed-Altey pulled out the weapon and stabbed the teenager in the chest, the force added.
The victim, aged 17 at the time of the attack, needed life-saving treatment before being taken to hospital.
Ahmed-Altey fled the scene but was arrested the next day, police said.
After a trial, Ahmed-Altey, formerly of Bath Street, Nottingham, was found guilty of both charges and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Det Con Addie Hart, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Mohammed Ahmed-Altey is a dangerous man who launched an attack on a teenager who was simply out celebrating his birthday.
“Had emergency services and hospital employees not acted so swiftly, there’s a high chance that the victim could’ve lost his life.
“The victim has since recovered, but this attack has undoubtedly left a huge physical and emotional impact on him and his loved ones, including those who stayed by his side in the immediate aftermath.”
