Danish Government Scholarships at Copenhagen Business School | Denmark

The Danish Government Scholarships 2027 at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) offer financial support to highly qualified international students applying for eligible full-time Master’s degree programmes in Denmark.

Funded through the Danish Government Scholarship scheme and administered by Copenhagen Business School, the awards are intended for students from outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland who need a Danish student residence permit to study at CBS.

According to CBS, approximately 25 scholarships are offered each year. Each scholarship includes a tuition-fee waiver and a monthly grant of DKK 8,000 to help with living expenses in Denmark. The grant can be awarded for up to 22 months and is taxable under Danish rules.

For the September 2027 intake, the application portal is scheduled to open on December 15, 2026. The scholarship application deadline is January 15, 2027, at 23:59 Danish time. Applicants must indicate their interest in the scholarship and upload a personal statement as part of the CBS admission application.

Degree Level

  • The CBS Danish Government Scholarship is available for eligible full-time Master’s degree programmes.

Available Subjects

Copenhagen Business School specialises in business, economics, management and related social sciences.

Depending on the programme and its scholarship availability, applicants may find eligible Master’s courses in areas such as:

  • Accounting
  • Business Administration
  • Business Analytics
  • Business and Data Science
  • Digital Business
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • Information Systems
  • International Business
  • International Business and Politics
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Organisation and Leadership
  • Social Sciences
  • Strategy
  • Supply Chain Management

Not every CBS Master’s programme necessarily offers a scholarship. Applicants should confirm programme eligibility and entry requirements through the official programme page.

Successful CBS Danish Government Scholarship recipients receive two principal benefits:

  • Tuition-fee waiver for the eligible Master’s programme.
  • Monthly grant of DKK 8,000 to assist with living expenses in Denmark.

The monthly grant can be awarded for a maximum of 22 months, beginning on September 1 for the main autumn intake. The scholarship grant is paid monthly in advance, subject to the university’s conditions.

The grant is taxable in Denmark. Applicants should therefore account for possible tax deductions when planning their finances.

The scholarship provides a tuition-fee waiver and a monthly living-cost grant, making it a substantial funding opportunity for eligible international Master’s students.

However, applicants should not assume that the grant covers every personal expense. Students must plan for accommodation, food, transportation, insurance, books, personal costs, and any other expenses not covered by the scholarship.

CBS currently lists its standard tuition fee for a full-time Master’s programme at €16,000 per year, or DKK 120,000 per year, for students who are required to pay international tuition fees. The scholarship waives tuition fees for recipients under the scholarship conditions.

Eligible Nationalities

The CBS Danish Government Scholarship is intended for international applicants who meet the university’s nationality and residence-permit requirements.

Applicants may be considered if they:

  • Are citizens of countries outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland.
  • Need a Danish student residence permit to study at CBS.
  • Meet the relevant scholarship and programme requirements.

Applicants who qualify for Danish State Educational Grant (SU) or other public support in Denmark may be ineligible for the scholarship.

Nationality alone does not guarantee eligibility. Applicants should check their residence status and tuition-fee liability against CBS’s official conditions.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Danish Government Scholarship at CBS for September 2027 entry, applicants must generally:

  • Be a non-EU, non-EEA, and non-Swiss citizen.
  • Need a Danish student residence permit to study at CBS.
  • Apply for an eligible full-time Master’s programme.
  • Meet the academic entry requirements of the selected programme.
  • Meet the programme’s English-language requirements.
  • Pay the application fee by the deadline, unless exempt.
  • Indicate in the CBS Application Portal that you wish to be considered for the scholarship.
  • Upload the required personal statement.
  • Submit a complete application before the deadline.
  • Not be eligible for the Danish State Educational Grant (SU) or other public support in Denmark.

CBS awards scholarships to highly qualified applicants. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee a scholarship.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must meet the entry requirements of their chosen CBS Master’s programme.

These generally include:

  • A recognized Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant academic preparation for the selected programme.
  • Required subject credits or prerequisites.
  • English-language proficiency.
  • Complete academic documentation.

CBS assesses applicants’ academic backgrounds against the requirements of each programme. Admission is competitive, and fulfilling the minimum entry requirements does not automatically guarantee a study place.

Applicants should check the specific entry requirements of their chosen Master’s programme before applying.

English Language Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the English-language requirements of their chosen CBS Master’s programme.
  • Accepted tests, minimum scores, and possible exemptions depend on the programme. Applicants should check the relevant programme’s official admission page for the current requirements.
  • Where English-language test results are required, applicants must provide acceptable evidence by the applicable deadline.

Required Documents

Applicants should prepare the documents required for both Master’s admission and scholarship consideration.

These may include:

  • Valid passport or national identity document showing citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate or documentation of expected graduation.
  • Official academic transcripts.
  • English-language test results, where required.
  • Personal statement for scholarship consideration.
  • Programme-specific supporting documents.
  • Residence-permit documentation, where relevant.
  • Application-fee payment confirmation, unless exempt.

CBS requires applicants seeking scholarship consideration to upload a personal statement and apply online through the Application Portal. The personal statement should be personal and specific, explain why the applicant has chosen CBS and the selected programme, and connect the applicant’s academic background and experience with their future goals. CBS specifies a maximum length of two pages.

How Winners Are Selected

CBS awards scholarships competitively to highly qualified applicants.

The selection process considers:

  • Academic record
  • English-language proficiency
  • Quality of the personal statement
  • Motivation for choosing CBS and the selected programme
  • Relevant academic achievements
  • Relevant work, internship or extracurricular experience
  • Overall suitability for the programme

Financial need is not the main selection criterion for the CBS Danish Government Scholarship.

The personal statement should explain why the applicant has chosen CBS and the specific programme, how previous experiences have shaped their academic interests, and how the programme connects with their future ambitions.

CBS states that a selection committee assesses scholarship applications and may interview applicants in some cases.

Scholarship Conditions

Students who receive a CBS scholarship must remain actively enrolled in the programme and concentration for which the scholarship was awarded.

CBS checks academic progress at the beginning of each semester. Students who fall more than six months, equivalent to 30 ECTS credits, behind their study plan risk losing the scholarship and may become liable for tuition fees.

The scholarship is awarded for a specific Master’s programme and concentration. Recipients must remain enrolled in that programme to continue receiving the award.

The monthly grant is normally available for up to 22 months. Extensions beyond the standard study period are not generally provided, except in extraordinary circumstances under the applicable rules.
