Benefits

For the 2027 intake, the University of Eastern Finland offers the following tuition support: 30% Early Bird Discount

  • Eligible students admitted to the 2027 intake can receive a 30% Early Bird discount on their first academic year’s tuition fee.
  • Depending on the programme, this represents a discount of approximately €3,000 or €3,600.
  • To receive the Early Bird discount, students must accept their admission offer and pay the tuition fee, or the first instalment, within the deadline stated in their admission letter, usually within 21 days of the publication of admission results.

30% Tuition Waiver for Subsequent Year

  • In Master’s programmes where the waiver is available, students may apply for a 30% tuition waiver for the second academic year based on their academic progress.
  • Students generally need to complete at least 55 ECTS credits during their first academic year, with the completed studies included in their degree and approved as part of their personal study plan. A separate application period is arranged after the first year.

Finnish Proficiency Tuition Waivers

  • UEF also provides tuition waivers to encourage international students to study Finnish during their degree.

Beginning with the 2027–2028 academic year:

  • Scholarship A: €2,500 tuition waiver based on a recognised Finnish language proficiency certificate.
  • Scholarship B: €1,500 tuition waiver based on qualifying Finnish language studies completed at UEF.

Students can apply for one of these Finnish proficiency waivers once during their studies after meeting the relevant requirements.

Is the UEF Master’s Scholarship Fully Funded?

  • No. The University of Eastern Finland Master’s Scholarships for the 2027 intake are not fully funded scholarships.
  • UEF specifically states that its 2027 tuition waiver programme provides partial support and that applicants cannot apply for a full 100% tuition waiver through the standard scholarship programme. Students are expected to have sufficient funds to cover the remaining tuition fees and their living expenses in Finland.
  • Students should therefore prepare a separate budget for accommodation, food, transportation, insurance, residence permit requirements and other personal expenses.

UEF Master’s Tuition Fees

  • Tuition fees for international Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes taught in English generally range from €10,000 to €12,000 per academic year, depending on the programme.
  • The fees apply to students from outside the European Union, European Economic Area and Switzerland who are liable to pay tuition fees.
  • The 30% Early Bird discount can reduce the first-year tuition fee by €3,000 or €3,600 depending on the programme.

Eligible Nationalities

  • UEF Master’s programmes are open to international applicants from countries around the world, subject to the admission requirements and tuition-fee rules of the selected programme.
  • Students from outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland who are required to pay tuition fees can be considered for the available tuition discounts and waivers.
  • Applicants should check the specific programme requirements before applying.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility requirements vary between Master’s programmes, but applicants generally need to meet the following conditions:

  • Hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education qualification.
  • Meet the academic requirements of the selected Master’s programme.
  • Have sufficient English-language proficiency.
  • Provide the required educational documents and transcripts.
  • Meet any programme-specific subject or credit requirements.
  • Meet the required admission criteria by the application deadline.
  • Be eligible for admission to the selected English-taught Master’s programme.

UEF states that its Master’s programmes are generally intended for applicants who already hold a Bachelor’s degree, and the programmes typically take two years to complete.

English Language Requirements

English proficiency is required for UEF’s English-taught Master’s programmes.

The accepted language tests, minimum scores and possible exemptions depend on the selected programme. Applicants should therefore check the individual Master’s programme page for the exact English-language requirements before submitting an application.

UEF notes that some programmes, including certain Economics and Business Administration programmes, may have an earlier application period in October. Living Costs in Finland

  • The UEF Master’s scholarship programme does not cover students’ general living expenses.
  • UEF recommends budgeting approximately €900–€1,000 per month for essential living costs. The Finnish Immigration Service requires non-EU/EEA students to demonstrate sufficient funds for their residence permit, with UEF noting a minimum of €800 per month under the relevant requirement.
  • Students should not depend on part-time employment as their primary source of funding, as UEF notes that finding suitable part-time work in Finland can be challenging.

Application Fee

  • Applicants from outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland are required to pay a national higher education application fee when applying to Finnish higher education programmes.
  • The application fee is separate from tuition fees and cannot be waived by UEF. Erasmus Mundus programmes have separate arrangements.

Important Note About UEF Scholarships for 2027

Applicants should not rely on older information stating that UEF offers 50% or 100% scholarships for the 2027 intake.

UEF’s official 2027 scholarship information states that the standard tuition waiver programme provides partial support, with the first-year Early Bird discount set at 30% and subsequent-year tuition waivers available under specified conditions.

The 2026 scholarship structure was different, so applicants should use the 2027 information when planning their finances.
