The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in collaboration with the Chemicals and Waste Youth Platform (CWYP), is offering a fully funded scholarship for young people to participate in the United Nations Chemicals and Waste Study Programme in Geneva, Switzerland.

This opportunity is designed for youth aged 18 to 35 who are interested in environmental governance, sustainability, and international policymaking.

This programme will take place from June 23 to July 17, 2026, in Geneva, a global hub for diplomacy and international cooperation. It combines participation in the UNITAR Chemicals and Waste Study Programme with real-time engagement in major multilateral processes.

Selected participants will have the opportunity to attend and contribute to the Basel Convention Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG-15) as well as the 62nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The study programme itself includes expert-led lectures, interactive workshops, and site visits to key international institutions such as the Palais des Nations, the World Health Organization, and the International Labour Organization.

Participants will explore critical topics such as hazardous waste management, chemical safety, public health, environmental governance, and international regulatory frameworks.

In addition to structured learning, the programme offers direct exposure to how global environmental agreements are negotiated and implemented.

Participants will engage with policymakers, observe negotiations, and contribute their youth perspectives to ongoing discussions, making this a highly immersive experience in international governance.
