Government Procured 24,534 Pieces of Equipment to Support Health Facilities for Free Primary Health Care Delivery.
The Spokesperson, Ministry of Health, Tony Goodman, in a press statement on 3rd April 2026, noted that the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has inspected a consignment of 24,534 medical equipment set to be deployed across the country as part of preparations for the commencement of the government’s free primary healthcare initiative.
The equipment, procured by the government, is expected to be distributed to health facilities nationwide to strengthen service delivery and improve access to essential healthcare.
These equipments includes the following:
- Baby incubators, radiant warmers, and oxygen concentrators for resuscitating newborns after delivery.
- X-ray Machines
- Vital sign monitors for checking blood pressure, temperature, etc.
- Glucometers for measuring blood sugar levels for diabetes screening.
- Patient monitors.
- Infusion devices.
- Laboratory analysers, etc.
- Delivery beds.
- Hospital beds
- Ultrasound
According to the Minister, the distribution exercise is aimed at retooling government hospitals and enhancing their capacity to deliver quality care.
And the intervention forms a key part of efforts to ensure that primary healthcare services are readily available and accessible to all Ghanaians.
He noted that the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to building a resilient healthcare system that prioritizes preventive care and early treatment.
The rollout of the equipment is anticipated to significantly boost the efficiency of healthcare delivery at the primary level, paving the way for the successful implementation of the free primary healthcare policy.
