Agric Ministry Initiates Steps to Terminate Pwalugu Dam Contract.

The Agriculture Ministry has revealed that the Attorney-General has been instructed to initiate steps to terminate the current Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam contract and re-award it for construction.

The Minister, Eric Opoku, says the decision formed part of the government’s ongoing efforts to find a lasting solution to the recurring flooding caused by the annual spillage of the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso.

“What we are doing is that we have asked the AG to initiate the processes for the termination of the contract, re-award the contract, and the president is committed to ensuring that the Pwalugu dam is constructed.

Parts of the North East and Upper East regions suffered from the perennial flooding due to the spillage from the Bagre dam, as homes, farmlands, and livestock were destroyed.

Speaking on August 29, the Minister told journalists that the government is committed to completing the Pwalugu Dam project.

He says it is a move that will ensure the security of livelihoods.

“When that is done, it will block the effect of the spillage on our people. In the meantime, we have cautioned our people on the spillage, and we are educating them on how to manage the effects as we prepare to go into that construction,” he stated.
