2,563 Government Workers’ Salaries Suspended; According to CAGD Due to Absence During Nationwide Headcount.

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has announced the suspension of salaries for some government employees following a nationwide headcount exercise.

A statement signed by Cephas Neosoo, Head of Public Relations for the CAGD, on Friday, January 30, 2026, disclosed that salaries for January 2026 have been paid to most staff on the national payroll.

However, the salaries of 2,563 employees have been withheld at the Auditor-General’s recommendation.

These employees reportedly failed to participate in the 2025 nationwide headcount conducted across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The CAGD has urged affected personnel to contact the Ghana Audit Service to verify their employment status and complete necessary clearance.

This step is required to ensure the reinstatement of their salaries.

The department reassured the public of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and timely salary payments in accordance with Public Financial Management laws.
