The Canadian Francophonie Scholarship Program (CFSP) is a fully funded scholarship offered by the Government of Canada to strengthen institutional capacity in developing member countries of La Francophonie.

Managed by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and World University Service of Canada (WUSC), the program supports professionals who hold key roles in their institutions and seek to enhance their skills through higher education, vocational training, or internships in Canada.

DEGREE LEVEL.

The CFSP offers funding for:

Note: Clinical training in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy is not eligible.

  • Hold a key institutional position where newly acquired skills will contribute to capacity building.
  • They are selected internally by their institution following national recruitment procedures.
  • Demonstrate excellent command of spoken and written French.

  • Apply for programs aligned with the development priorities identified by their country.
  • Be part of the institutional strengthening plan (priority is given to candidates who enhance organizations when they return).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE.

The CFSP application process is unique and does not involve direct individual applications. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Internal Selection by Institutions

  • Your institution (university, government office, public/ private sector body) conducts internal recruitment to identify qualified candidates.

Step 2: Nomination to Local Advisory Committee

  • Selected candidates submit documents to the Local Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from relevant ministries and sectors.

Step 3: National Evaluation

The Advisory Committee evaluates:

  • Alignment with institutional capacity-building goals
  • Candidate’s professional role and contribution potential
  • Academic excellence
  • French-language proficiency
  • Gender and regional balance
  • A Canadian diplomatic mission oversees the process to ensure transparency.

Step 4: Admission to a Canadian Institution

  • Shortlisted candidates must then apply for admission to Canadian universities or colleges.

Step 5: Final Award Confirmation

  • The scholarship becomes effective only after admission is granted.
