Police arrest Mason over alleged murder of his 13-year-old daughter.

The Weija Divisional Police Command has launched investigations into the death of a 13-year-old girl, Celestine Adonteng, who was brutalised by her father at Kokrobite in Accra. The statement announcing the investigation was issued on Thursday, November 20.

According to the police, preliminary findings show that the suspect, 54-year-old Mason Isaac Adonteng, subjected the child to severe beatings using a cane, a metal pipe, and other objects after accusing her of taking food meant for her younger sibling.

Despite the victim sustaining multiple injuries, he reportedly failed to seek medical care and confined her in a room.

Police officers, acting on a complaint, visited the home and found the girl unconscious. She was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Items retrieved from the scene include a cutlass and a metal pipe believed to have been used in the assault.

In the statement, the Accra Regional Police Command warned parents and guardians against using excessive force in disciplining children, stressing that such acts constitute criminal behaviour and often result in devastating consequences.

The Command further urged the public to promptly report all cases of child abuse and domestic violence to ensure swift intervention and protection of vulnerable victims.
