The Tinbergen Institute Research Master in Economics Scholarship 2026-2027 offers outstanding students a chance to study at one of the leading graduate schools in the Netherlands.

This merit-based scholarship provides financial support to international and EEA students pursuing a Research Master’s degree in Economics at the prestigious Tinbergen Institute, jointly operated by Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), the University of Amsterdam (UvA), and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU).

Degree Level

  • The scholarship is available for students pursuing a Research Master’s Degree (two-year program) in Economics, which serves as a strong foundation for PhD-level research.

The program focuses on advanced training in:

  • Economics
  • Econometrics
  • Finance
  • Data Science for Business and Economics
  • Quantitative Methods and Policy Analysis

Students receive rigorous methodological and theoretical education, preparing them for academic, research, or policy-related careers.

BENEFITS

  • Tinbergen Institute offers both full and partial scholarships to selected students.

For First-Year Students (2026-2027):

  • Full Scholarship: €1,500 monthly stipend.
  • Partial Scholarship: €750 monthly stipend.

For Second-Year Students (2027-2028):

  • Full Scholarship: €1,000 monthly stipend for students with a weighted GPA ≥ 8.0 in core courses.
  • Partial Scholarship: €750 monthly stipend for students with a weighted GPA ≥ 7.5 in core courses.

Additional financial support includes:

  • Institutional Tuition Fee Waivers (partial).
  • Travel expense compensation for commuting between the Amsterdam and Rotterdam campuses.
  • Teaching and Research Assistant (TA/RA) positions for second-year students.

PHD FUNDING:

  • After the Research Master’s, many students continue to the PhD phase with fully funded positions offering a monthly gross salary starting from €3,059–€3,546, rising to €3,881 in the final year.

Tuition Fees (2025-2026)

  • EEA Students: €2,695 (statutory fee)
  • Non-EEA Students: €20,500 (statutory + institutional fee)
  • In the PhD phase, no tuition fees are charged.

Estimated Living Costs

  • Expect monthly expenses between €975 and €1,500, including accommodation, food, insurance, and transportation.

ELIGIBLE NATIONALITIES

  • Both groups are eligible for admission and scholarships, though tuition fees differ.

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance (excellent GPA and research potential).
