Eligible Nationalities

  • Open to international students from all countries, excluding those eligible for specific regional scholarships.

To qualify for the Vice-Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a new international student applying for the first time to the University of Waikato.
  • Have received a conditional or unconditional offer of a place.
  • Hold a minimum GPA equivalent to a B+ in previous qualifications.
  • Be applying for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate (taught) program.

    Apply the trimester deadlines:

  • 30 November (A Trimester)
  • 30 April (B Trimester)
  • 31 August (C Trimester)
  • 31 October (H or X Trimester)

Applicants are not eligible if:

  • They are currently enrolled at Waikato or in limited-entry programs (e.g., Master of Nursing Practice).
  • They have paid tuition fees or applied for a visa at the time of application.
  • They are studying through sponsorship, credit transfer, or exchange agreements.

Application Procedure

  • Apply to enroll at the University of Waikato and receive your offer of place.
  • Create a MyWaikato Account:
  • Once registered, log in to your MyWaikato portal.
  • Submit Scholarship Application:
  • Upload your offer letter.
  • Provide a personal statement describing your academic achievements, reasons for choosing Waikato, and your potential as a global ambassador.

Selection Process:

  • Applications are reviewed based on academic excellence and ambassadorial potential.
  • Results are typically announced within 8–12 weeks of submission.
