Turkey ARIT Research Fellowships 2026 (Fully Funded).
The American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT) Fellowships 2026-2027 provide outstanding opportunities for scholars and advanced graduate students to conduct research in Turkey.
These fellowships, supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, offer funding for projects in the humanities and social sciences across ancient, medieval, and modern periods.
The American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting scholarly research and promoting knowledge about Turkey’s rich cultural heritage, history, and society.
With branch centers in Istanbul and Ankara, ARIT provides research and study facilities, access to extensive libraries, and valuable connections with Turkish institutions, colleagues, and government authorities.

Degree Level
- Advanced graduate students (PhD candidates ABD – “all but dissertation”) and postdoctoral scholars.

Eligible Nationalities
- Open to U.S. citizens.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Scholars and advanced graduate students focusing on Turkey-related research in the humanities or social sciences.
- Graduate student applicants must have completed all doctoral requirements except the dissertation by June 2026.
- Non-U.S. applicants must be affiliated with a recognized educational institution in the U.S. or Canada.
- Applicants must be able to obtain appropriate research permits and visas from Turkish authorities.
Application Procedure
- Prepare your application: Download and complete the ARIT application form.
- Submit documents: Send completed application and supporting documents via email to aritoffice@gmail.com.
- Letters of recommendation: Ensure three references are submitted directly by referees.
- Graduate student applicants: Provide a copy of your graduate transcript.
- Deadline: Submit all materials by November 1, 2025.
- Selection process: The ARIT Committee on Fellowships reviews applications, with notifications expected by late January 2026.
Research Permission Requirement
Successful applicants are responsible for obtaining research permits and visas from the relevant Turkish authorities.
For projects under three months, a tourist visa may be acceptable, while longer research stays require a research visa and permits from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
