University of Ghana Opens Graduate Admissions for 2026/2027 Academic Year
The School of Graduate Studies of the University of Ghana, Legon, has announced the opening of applications for Master’s and PhD programmes for the 2026 to 2027 academic year.
The announcement, published on February 18, 2026, invites qualified applicants from Ghana and abroad to apply for a wide range of accredited postgraduate programmes across the University’s four colleges.
Programmes are available under the College of Humanities, the College of Education, the College of Health Sciences, and the College of Basic and Applied Sciences.

General Entry Requirements
For Master’s programmes,
- Applicants must possess a good first degree in a relevant field from the University of Ghana or any recognized and accredited institution.
- A minimum of Second Class Lower or a final grade point average of at least 2.0 is required.
- Applicants with Third Class degrees may be considered based on relevant work experience or additional qualifications.
- Some departments may require applicants to sit for an entrance examination or attend an interview as part of the selection process.
- In certain cases, candidates admitted into MA or MSc programmes may be upgraded to MPhil status after demonstrating strong academic performance, particularly by obtaining an average grade of B plus or better in the first semester.
For PhD programmes,
- Applicants may apply with either a relevant Master’s degree or a very good first degree.
- Candidates admitted with a first degree will be required to undertake Level 600 Master’s courses and must pass all required examinations before progressing to the doctoral phase.
- All PhD programmes are fee-paying.
- The duration is four years for full-time study and six years for part-time study.
Application Process and Fees
Ghanaian applicants
- Application e-vouchers are 00 and may be obtained from designated banks, including Zenith Bank, Access Bank, Ecobank, GCB Bank, Fidelity Bank, Republic Bank, Agricultural Development Bank, Consolidated Bank Ghana, Universal Merchant Bank, and First Atlantic Bank.
- Applications must be completed online through the official admissions portal.

International applicants and Ghanaians applying from outside the country are required to pay a non-refundable processing fee of US$55.00.
Payment may be made through designated University of Ghana foreign accounts or via the secure online payment platform that accepts Visa and MasterCard. The link is https://www.ug.edu.gh/ugpay
Applicants are required to scan and upload their certificates and transcripts in a single PDF document.
University of Ghana graduates must provide their student identity numbers where applicable and ensure that all details submitted correspond exactly with official documents.
Three referees are also required as part of the application process.
The University has cautioned applicants to ensure accuracy in their submissions and to keep copies of all materials and payment details.
NOTE:
- The names provided on the application portal must correspond with those on certificates and transcripts
- Where the applicant’s name has changed or is different from that on the certificate and transcript, a Gazette must be provided.
- Where the arrangement or spelling of names has changed, an affidavit must be provided.
- Applicants must ensure that their online applications are correctly filled out and the receipt is acknowledged on submission.
- Applicants must ensure that correct addresses and telephone numbers are provided. They must print and keep copies of the application materials submitted online.
- Applicants should also safely keep their vouchers, as the serial ID and pins stated thereon would be needed for accessing the admission letters.
Deadline
The deadline for submission of all online applications is Friday, August 14, 2026.
The University has urged applicants to adhere strictly to this date, as late submissions will not be considered.
