Two arrested over alleged plot to assassinate Akyem Kwabeng chief
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly plotting to assassinate Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II, Chief of Akyem Kwabeng and Gyasehene of the Akyem Abuakwa State.
The arrests followed intelligence received on October 11, 2025, indicating that a plan was being hatched to eliminate the Chief ahead of his first Royal Durbar scheduled for October 17, in Akyem Kwabeng.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) was deployed to infiltrate the group suspected of orchestrating the plot.
During a covert operation on October 12, suspect Emelia Akua Asor, 47, allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to undercover officers to assassinate both Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II and a woman believed to be the newly installed Queen Mother of Akyem Kwabeng.
Police say Emelia instructed a second suspect, Butuakwa Seth, 48, to accompany the undercover team to Akyem Kwabeng to identify the Chief and the Queen Mother’s residence. Seth is alleged to have led the officers to the locations and provided a photograph of the Chief to aid the operation.
According to police sources, the suspects promised an additional GH₵50,000 upon successful execution of the plan.
Both suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
