Three arrested over Obrachire student assault.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed the arrest of three students involved in an attack on a pupil of Obrachire Senior High Technical School during the district inter-school’s athletics competition by students of the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS).
The GES confirmed the update in an interview with JoyNews on Monday, February 23. GES officials provided details of the incident and the subsequent disciplinary actions.
The clash reportedly occurred in Agona Swedru on Thursday, February 19, when tensions between students of the two schools escalated into a physical confrontation. The attack disrupted the event and raised serious concerns over the safety of students, staff, and spectators.
Earlier, GES had issued a statement expressing deep concern over the developments, stressing that the incidents undermined the spirit of healthy competition and posed risks to all participants.
In response to the situation, the Central Regional Directorate of GES has directed the immediate suspension of all zonal inter-school sporting activities among Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) in the region, pending a thorough investigation.
GES has assured that appropriate measures will be taken to ensure accountability and restore order in school sporting events.
