The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP) offers funded mobility opportunities for international students, PhD candidates, university teachers, researchers, and artists to study, teach, or conduct research in Slovakia
Established in 2005 and financed by the Ministry of Education, Research, Development, and Youth of the Slovak Republic, this prestigious Slovak government scholarship supports academic mobility at Slovak universities and research institutions.

BENEFITS.
The National Scholarship Programme provides generous monthly funding:
Monthly Stipend.
- Master’s Students: €620 per month
- PhD Students: €1,025.50 per month
University Teachers/Researchers/Artists:
- Without PhD & <4 years’ experience: €1,025.50
- With PhD & <10 years’ experience: €1,370
- With PhD & >10 years’ experience: €1,470
The scholarship covers living expenses in Slovakia, including accommodation, food, and daily costs.
Travel Grant
- Students and PhD applicants can receive a travel allowance based on the distance between their home country and Slovakia: €50 – €1,500 (depending on distance up to 7,000+ km)
The travel grant is paid at the end of the stay, together with the final scholarship payment.
Eligible Nationalities.
- Open to international students of all nationalities.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Master’s Students
- Must be studying outside Slovakia
- Must have completed at least 2.5 years of university studies
- Must be accepted by a Slovak university
- Duration: 1–2 semesters
Note: Not available for full degree students in Slovakia.
PhD Students
- Enrolled in a PhD program outside Slovakia
- Accepted by a Slovak university or research institution
- Duration: 1–10 months
University Teachers, Researchers & Artists
- Invited by a Slovak institution
- Host must have research eligibility certification
- Duration: 1–10 months
Who Is Not Eligible?
The NSP does not support:
- Students enrolled in full-degree programs in Slovakia
- Applicants who stayed in Slovakia for 15+ months in the last 36 months
- Those receiving other publicly funded scholarships (Erasmus+, Visegrad Fund, etc.)
- Certain experienced applicants without a PhD (with exceptions)

Although requirements vary by category, common documents include:
- CV
- Motivation letter
- Study/research plan
- Acceptance letter from the Slovak host institution
- Recommendation letters
- Academic transcripts and diplomas
Applications must be submitted online at www.scholarships.sk.
Note: The original acceptance letter must be sent to SAIA within 3 working days after the deadline.
NSP Scholarship Deadlines
- 30 April (16:00 CET) – For the next academic year stays
- 31 October (16:00 CET) – For summer semester stays
Applicants are advised not to wait until the last minute to submit applications.
Selection Process.
Applications are evaluated by a Selection Committee appointed by the Slovak Ministry. Selection is based on:
- Academic excellence
- Quality of study/research plan
- Recommendation letters
- Contribution to host institution
- Overall application consistency
