In a significant initiative aimed at enhancing nutritional support for education, the National School Feeding Programme is set to broaden its reach to include over 1,000 students from non-beneficial public basic schools in rural communities nationwide.
Currently serving more than four million students, this crucial initiative was underscored by National Coordinator Hajia Fati Forgor during her recent visit to the Bono Region, where she engaged with school officials and local stakeholders to evaluate the programme’s impact and implementation strategies.
The government’s dedication to this initiative reflects a commitment not only to improving education but also to ensuring that no child goes hungry at school.
During her school visits, Hajia Fati expressed her approval of the quality and quantity of meals provided, noting that the government has settled all outstanding payments to caterers to guarantee a seamless continuation of services.
”We are committed to enhancing students’ well-being and ensuring that every child has access to nutritious meals,” Hajia Fati Forgor stated.
Heads of schools expressed their gratitude for the programme, reporting significant improvements in both school enrolment and attendance. They noted that the reliable provision of meals has led to increased regularity in student attendance compared to previous years when nutritional support was minimal.
Selina Boatemaa, headmistress of Police Primary and JHS, shared her perspective, highlighting the positive changes witnessed in student participation since the programme’s inception.
Furthermore, Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa expressed his full support for the initiative, emphasising the need for its rapid expansion to include all public basic schools within the region.
”We must ensure that all our children have access to this important service, as it plays a crucial role in their education and overall well-being,” Mr Addae Akwaboa remarked.
With this expansion, the National School Feeding Programme is taking significant steps towards ensuring better educational outcomes and improving the lives of countless children across rural communities.
