NTC Registration: Procedure for Correction of Names, Date of Birth, Gender, and Programme.

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has issued detailed guidelines for candidates seeking corrections to their personal information on the Council’s examination portal.

The directive is intended to ensure accuracy and integrity in candidates’ records as they prepare for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) and other NTC-administered assessments.

According to the NTC, requests for corrections have become increasingly common, particularly regarding names, dates of birth, programme qualifications, and gender.

To maintain a transparent and verifiable process, the Council has outlined the official documentation that must accompany each type of correction request.

Correction of Name.

For candidates wishing to correct their names on the portal, the following documents are required:

  • A formal letter from the awarding institution, signed exclusively by the Registrar/principal of the institution.
  • A certified copy of the candidate’s school certificate.
  • A valid national identification document, specifically the ECOWAS Card (commonly known as the Ghana Card).

The Council emphasised that no correction of name will be approved without authentication from the Registrar/principal of the candidate’s awarding institution, as this serves as the highest level of institutional verification.

Correction of Date of Birth.

For adjustments to date of birth, candidates must provide:

  • A copy of their ECOWAS Card (Ghana Card).

The NTC explained that the Ghana Card is the only acceptable proof for this correction since it is the official national identity document used in verifying personal details.

Correction of Programme Qualification.

Candidates who wish to correct details related to their programme or academic qualification must present:

  • A certified copy of their school certificate.
  • An official transcript of academic records from the awarding institution.

This requirement, the Council noted, ensures that all qualification details provided on the examination portal correspond accurately with the candidate’s verified academic background.

Correction of Gender.

For candidates requesting a correction of gender, the Council requires:

  • A copy of the ECOWAS Card (Ghana Card).

The NTC clarified that the Ghana Card will serve as the sole proof of gender identification in such cases, aligning with national data standards.

Submission of Documents in Person.

The Council stressed that all required documents must be gathered and submitted in person by the affected candidate to their head office in Accra (or any medium that may be provided later).

These corrections may be presented either before or after the examination, but only by the candidate concerned.

The NTC will not accept documents submitted on behalf of candidates through third parties, in order to safeguard authenticity and accountability.

Accurate Records.

Mr. Nimako Owusu Dorme, Director of Assessment and Examination at the NTC, underscored the importance of accurate candidate data, noting that even minor discrepancies can affect eligibility, certification, and professional licensing.

“Ensuring that candidate information is accurate and up to date is critical for the credibility of our examinations and for the professional records of teachers in Ghana. Candidates are therefore urged to strictly follow the outlined process when requesting corrections,” Mr. Dorme stated.

Advisory to Candidates.

The NTC further urged candidates not to delay in submitting correction requests before or after the exams.

All documents must be genuine, duly certified, and submitted through the proper channels.

Candidates who fail to provide the required documents risk having their correction requests denied.

Additionally, the Council warned against the use of intermediaries or third parties, stressing that all communication should be made directly to the NTC to prevent fraud or misrepresentation.

The NTC reiterated its commitment to upholding professional standards in teacher education and licensing.

Candidates with pending corrections are advised to act promptly.
