GES suspends Wovenu SHS assistant matron over suspected food theft.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Volta Region has interdicted an Assistant Matron at Wovenu Senior High School (SHS) in Tadzewu following allegations of pilfering food items intended for students.
The move comes after three individuals, including the Assistant Matron and a police officer, were arrested over the alleged diversion of the school’s food supplies.
Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, February 17, Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of GES, Forgive Agoha, confirmed that preliminary checks had uncovered irregularities warranting criminal investigation.
“A committee has been constituted to investigate the matter and submit its report with recommendations to the Regional Directorate within one week,” he said.
Mr. Agoha added that the Assistant Matron has been interdicted pending the outcome of the inquiry. He further assured that all persons found culpable would face legal consequences.
“Following the alleged misappropriation of some food items belonging to the school, the management of the Volta Regional Education Directorate called for a preliminary report, which was submitted the following day. Based on that report, it has been established that there has been some element of criminality, and the Ghana Police Service has taken up the criminal aspect of the case,” he explained.
