Friday 6th March declared public holiday.

The Ministry of the Interior has declared Friday, March 6, 2026, a statutory public holiday to mark Ghana’s Independence Day celebration.

In a press release issued on March 2, 2026, the sector minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, announced that the day should be observed as a public holiday across the country.

Independence Day is a significant national occasion that commemorates Ghana’s attainment of independence from colonial rule on March 6, 1957, making the country the first in sub-Saharan Africa to achieve self-governance.

The annual celebration is marked by parades, cultural displays, and national events involving schoolchildren, security services, and government officials, as the nation reflects on its history and progress.

The Ministry urged the public to observe the day accordingly as Ghana celebrates its sovereignty and national identity.
