ECG, GRIDCo announce temporary power outage in Cape Coast for upgrade works.
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced a 5-hour temporary power outage on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in Cape Coast and surrounding communities.
In a joint press release issued on Friday, January 16, 2026, the two power utilities said the interruption is necessary for final upgrade works of a 66MVA power transformer at the Cape Coast Substation to be completed.
This will facilitate the successful commissioning of the power transformer at the substation.
According to the statement, power supply will be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to allow for the completion of works associated with the upgrade.
The upgrade, GRIDCo and ECG explained, is expected to significantly enhance the capacity of the substation, leading to improved and more reliable electricity supply for residents and businesses in Cape Coast and its surrounding areas.
“The transformer upgrade will enhance the overall quality and stability of electricity supply in the region,” the statement said.
The two institutions assured the public that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the works are completed promptly and that power supply is restored within the scheduled time.
GRIDCo and ECG apologised to customers for any inconvenience the temporary interruption may cause and reiterated their commitment to delivering reliable and improved electricity transmission and distribution services across the country.
