Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 6,100 teachers.
Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 6,100 teachers, all from the 2023 graduate cohort.
The Minister said adequate provision has been made to cater for this new batch of teachers.
His statement was in response to a coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers from the Colleges of Education who embarked on a protest on Wednesday, November 19, to demand postings.
According to the group, made up of the 2022 and 2023 backlog, they have not been posted despite passing the Teacher Licensure examination and completing their national service.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the Minister assured the unposted teachers that they will be employed.
“Education remains Ghana’s largest employer. I understand that some striking teachers are looking for us on the streets of Accra. To respond to them, the Cabinet approved for us to recruit some 6100 more teachers, and therefore that category of teachers would belong to the 2023 cohort, and would be adequately captured,” he said.
He stated that fixing these challenges is a top government priority, and efforts are already being made to place unposted teachers in schools.
He emphasized that the government is still dedicated to incorporating competent teachers into the system, adding that this posting will clear the backlog of unposted teachers.
The Minister also asked the teachers who were protesting to visit the Ministry for verification procedures to be completed.
“I will be surprised if it is the same group that is on the streets. They should rather be looking for us and going back to offices for audit and identification to be reinstated to be paid,” he stated.
The protest began at Tema Station in Accra. The Coalition is expected to proceed to the Jubilee House, where the group will present a petition to the presidency.
